October 27, 2014 – Chevening Alumni Leadership Conference

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at UK universities.

Kunchou Tsai (bottom left), Zoomlaw’s partner and Chevening alumni, was part of the legal panel at the conference, accompanied by other alumni. The Director of British Trade & Culture Office in Taiwan, Mr. Chris Wood (bottom right), along with Tsai and other alumni debated about cross-strait relations; particularly the opening of legal service market in both Taiwan and China. Mr. Tsai was mainly focused on financial law, tax law, international investment and the practice of law in Taiwan.

October 22, 2014 – Yamaguchi & Associates

Yamaguchi & Associates is a Japanese law firm established in 1978. It is focused mainly on affairs relating to intellectual property rights together with a wide variety of specialties ranging from negotiations to general legal services in the U.S.A.

We were very pleased to welcome Ms. YAMAGUCHI Sakurako (Manager, International Department) and Mr. OSHIMA Nobuyuki (Executive Vice President and Patent Attorney) to our Taipei office in order to discuss the IP industry in both Japan and Taiwan and its development in the recent years.

We look forward to future collaboration with our Japanese peers.

September 24, 2014 – Taipei Int’l Invention Show and Technomart:

The Taipei Int’l Invention Show and Technomart provides a platform for international IP property trade and technology transfer. The show took place 18-21 September 2014. Its ultimate goal was to invite everyone to “know Taiwan, come to Taiwan, and invest in Taiwan”. It demonstrated the innovations among Taiwanese industry, government and academic institutes; to increase the understanding of general public regarding to IP and the innovations.

As a law firm specialized in IP, Zoomlaw was the legal counsel of the show. The firm had its own booth and was present to answer any questions the visitors had on IP. Those questions mostly ranged from how to file a trademark application to how to file a copyright infringement form.
